A self-healing, learning community for seekers, visionaries, and free thinkers. Free from medical jargon, but close to ourselves and each other. Celebrating the wisdom within madness.

The Peer support group on steroids

The Peer Support Group helps people celebrate the wisdom in madness . Giving the permission and encouragement to liberate ourselves from social norms, stigma, and self-censorship. This touches on a deeply human theme that is both a need and a fear: to be truly seen. The Peer Support Group reminds us that we all have the power to write our own stories and make free choices , even in the midst of chaos and pain.

The Peer Support Group group connects people with like-minded people and focuses on connection and social engagement. It is easier to stand in our authenticity when it is recognized by a supportive community, this breaks through the isolating feeling of 'being different'. People find recognition and belonging in community. Here one can also safely experiment with the kind of roles one would like to take on in the bigger world.

The Peer Support group differs from the traditional peer group in that the emphasis is on ownership rather than victimhood . Existential suffering is seen as a growth phase rather than an end point. We expect a growth mindset from our members, because we know that a crisis leads to transformation and often makes a person richer and stronger than before.

IS

The name Inmost Cave refers to Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey and can be compared to 'the dark night of the soul'. It is sometimes a physical, sometimes a metaphorical space where the hero must face internal and external challenges. It often involves entering a 'dark place', filled with uncertainty and danger.

It is a metaphor for the chaos of a crisis leading to transformation.

How does the group of allies support you?

Inmost Cave aims to create a community of mutual support for people going through a crisis, the group of allie is based on the following foundations:

Peer Support

Social Laboratory

Sovereign Language

Peer Support (as defined by IPS ) is the building of equal and reciprocal relationships. Both parties share responsibility for the relationship and explore their own and the other's worldview. Both parties are both givers and receivers; teachers and students in the peer support relationship. And the deepening of awareness that arises as a result is instructive for all parties.

Safe experimental space for, among other things, forming conscious relationships, community building, strength-based meaning-making, meaningful ritual, the exchange of talents, advocacy, social change, education, art, inspiration, dialogue, mutual support, solidarity, channeling anger, philosophical questions, festivity, ... You co-create the content and can practice the roles you want to take on!

Everyone is the sovereign owner of their inner world and experiences . You may express your inner world in medical language if this works for you. But we also encourage you to experiment with language, word, meaning, metaphor, philosophy, worldview, color, art, feeling, ... Different frameworks  make room for different insights and new choices or alternative paths.

I know what it's like to be lost...

🐐 My Origin: I Was the Scapegoat 🐐
My name is Caroline. I was the scapegoat in a deeply religious family, a child in youth care with multiple diagnoses and a junkie. In youth care I was demonized for the anger I felt about my home situation. This nested deeply in my self-image and I went through multiple existential crises . Something had to change!

🌱 The Power of Radical Ownership🌱
I have learned to welcome my symptoms as messengers and guides . They have taught me that vulnerability is an unyielding force and interconnectedness is a basic need for growth and healing. I have slowly rewritten the story I want to tell about my life.

🎯 My mission as an expert by experience 🎯
I currently work as an expert by experience in a psychiatric care institution. Here I feel an enormous pressure to conform , because systems strive to maintain their (unhealthy) balance. Experts by experience are inherently a threat to that status quo. This brought me into contact with a deeper need: the need for a sanctuary for and by ourselves: free from (self)stigma or taboo, truly equal and where one is heard instead of diagnosed.

🏴‍☠️ Inmost Cave: boldness and community as a vision 🏴‍☠️
With Inmost Cave I want to inspire a wider audience to take the plunge and take control of their lives and recovery. Inmost Cave is the first step to make that sanctuary a reality and to bring together people who want to experiment with other ways of relating and looking at their story. We can also work together with healthcare from here, but in our own direction!
